ASIS 2007 is history — and much of it is still a blur as we seek to digest and understand all we saw and did. Here are some of the items that stand out in our addled consciousness.
Virtual Credentials
TRANSFERRED THROUGH A SECURE IDBANK SYSTEM
HID Global has enabled the delivery of virtual secure identity credentials through a vehicle called the idBank system. The system allows users to emulate HID and other popular access control credential formats using form factors other than a traditional card. Identity information is loaded from the idBank secure container onto a non-standard device during a secure provisioning process using specialized enrollment software. HID Proximity, HID Indala Proximity, CASI Proximity and HID iCLASS credentials can all be delivered to radio-frequency technology-enabled tokens. “By separating the data content of secure identity from physical media, the idBank system represents a technological advancement in allowing the development of new partner solutions based on alternate physical platforms,” says Tam Halusi, executive vice president of HID Global. Video-Based Fire Monitoring System
DETECTS FLAMES, SMOKE AND INTRUDERS
The IFV-1000 is a digital video analytics system suitable for early fire and smoke detection in enterprise facilities. The system integrates with existing CCTV infrastructure. It features image analysis technology that applies algorithms to surveillance camera images to detect events such as flames within and outside a camera's field-of-view, reflected fire light, anomalies caused by smoke plumes, ambient smoke and intrusion. Flames and smoke can often be detected earlier than existing fire alarm systems for specific applications. Each image frame is analyzed pixel-by-pixel. If the algorithm detects characteristics of smoke or flames, the user is immediately notified by digital video and voice alarm transmissions over an IP network. The architecture is scalable to cover entire facilities and supports eight cameras per DVR with an unlimited number of DVRs. Intelligent Video Network
ESTABLISHES A NETWORK OF INTEROPERABLE INTELLIGENT VIDEO DEVICES
OV Ready, an XML-based intelligent video network protocol, standardizes ObjectVideo's video analytic rule, alert and configuration communications. Using the network, users can have seamless interoperability between any ObjectVideo OnBoard device and any OV Ready-compliant video management system. With the protocol, device manufacturers can have universal compatibility among any video management system that adopts the standard. Video management systems can also build analytic rule, configuration and data output interfaces with their own software to immediately communicate and manage any number of devices hosting ObjectVideo. “Customers want a single-user interface to manage all things video, and a clear path to deploy analytics,” says Bob Cutting, ObjectVideo director of product management. “The end-user now has a variety of options to design an end-to-end solution.” OV Ready, ObjectVideo Inc. Supply Chain Compliance Manager
ANALYZES C-TPAT RISK AND COMPLIANCE INFORMATION
The Web-based software tool automates the collection and analysis of business partner risk information for compliance with the Custom Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT) program. Based on supplier responses to customized online questionnaires, the software eliminates subjectivity by using mathematical modeling to analyze and score exposures. Assessment requests, reminders and results can be e-mailed to suppliers individually or as a group. After analyzing data, the manager provides suppliers with three scores: a Security Assessment Score, a Country Risk Index and a Supplier Risk Index. Supplier Compliance Manager, First Advantage Corp. Night Vision Image Sensor
DELIVERS CLEAR IMAGES ACROSS THE NIR AND SWIR SPECTRUM
The imager uses a germanium-enhanced CMOS (complementary metal oxide semiconductor) single-chip image sensor to deliver clear, high-resolution images across the visible, near-infrared (NIR) and short-wave infrared (SWIR) spectrum. Night vision sometimes is achieved through active illumination or by using specialized low-light cameras to intensify images created by stray light. The resulting images of objects and people may be unrecognizable in the frame. The TriWave imager can sense the large amounts of SWIR light that is emitted by the earth's atmosphere at night and amplify that lighting to perform passive night vision, thus allowing users to capture visual images clearly in zero light. TriWave camera cores will soon be available through leading camera manufacturer products. TriWave Imager, NoblePeak Corp. (noblepeak.com) Circle No. 5 or visit securitysolutions.com/productinfo.
Graffiti Camera
IDENTIFIES GRAFFITI-RELATED ACTIVITY
The camera is a high-resolution covert video recording unit concealed in an all-weather enclosure. When the recording unit is activated via a graffiti-related motion, it sends text messages of the event to designated cell phones in about 6 seconds. The unit can also send JPEG images of the event to designated e-mail addresses to enable law enforcement personnel to dispatch resources to the site. The camera can capture up to 6,000 high-quality images at 0.1 seconds per frame and can record images from 2-ft. or from a quarter-mile away. The camera can also be used to monitor for drug- and gang-related activity, vandalism and theft. Because of its covert packaging, subjects are not aware they are being recorded or that law enforcement has been notified, which increases the likelihood of arrest.
