We are pleased to join forces with our sister magazine to provide this timely supplement focused on school security. The publications involved in this effort — Access Control & Security Systems and American School & University — pooled resources to bring readers of both magazines the latest information about school security strategies and technologies.

Our first such collaboration was back in July 1999 in the wake of the tragedy at Columbine High School, which brought new levels of attention to the issue of school security — and new awareness of the need for innovative solutions. The tragedy this year at Virginia Tech again thrust school security to the forefront, prompting us to pool our resources again. Our goal is to provide useful information to enable schools and universities to prevent future tragedies, or at least to minimize their impact. As always, we welcome your feedback.
