Tyco International to form separate security company

Tyco Intl. Ltd., Pembroke, Bermuda, has announced it will split into four independent, publicly traded companies: Security and Electronics; Heathcare; Fire Protection and Flow Control; and Financial Services. The company says it will complete the planned transactions by the end of 2002. Dennis Kozlowski will be chairman and CEO, and Mark Swartz will be CFO of the Security and Electronics unit.
The OEM division of Silent Witness, Surrey, B.C., has completed the first development phase of its digital video sensor for Stanley Access Technologies, a division of The Stanley Works, New Britain, Conn. The digital video sensor system is integrated with The Stanley Works' automatic door solution for commercial and industrial sites.
ASSA ABLOY AB, New Haven, Conn., has formed an Identification Technology Group. It is comprised of a card manufacturing center in North Haven, Conn.; HID Corp., Irvine, Calif.; HID Corp. Ltd., Haverhill, England; Identification Technology Group Asia Pacific Ltd., Hong Kong; Identification Technology Group research and development center, Denver; and Indala, San Jose, Calif.
The Protection Bureau, Exton, Pa., and Allied Security, King of Prussia, Pa., have formed a strategic alliance in which The Protection Bureau has purchased the electronics security division of Allied.
ASK S.A., Nice, France, has been selected as the preferred supplier for smart cards for transit applications by the ERG Group, Concord, Calif. ASK has also acquired manufacturing assets for the Venus contactless smart cards developed by Motorola.
Digital Monitoring Products Inc., Springfield, Mo., has entered into an agreement with PSA Security Network, Denver, to provide PSA's 140 member companies access to DMP's line of intrusion, fire and access control products.
Communications Specialties Inc., Hauppage, N.Y., has appointed PLM Electronics, Clifton, N.J., as a representative of its products. PLM will handle all CCTV/security and ITS/data sales in New York, New Jersey and eastern Pennsylvania. Communications Specialties has also announced its representative, Heartland Media Group, Chicago, has expanded its CCTV/security sales region to include Kentucky, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, western Pennsylvania and West Virginia.
Johnson Controls Inc., Milwaukee, has acquired Scientech Security Systems, Idaho Falls, Idaho, through Johnson's subsidiary, Johnson Controls Government Systems LLC. Scientech specializes in U.S. government projects.
BioID America Inc., Raleigh, N.C., has partnered with Aurora Defense LLC, Bethesda, Md., to offer BioID face recognition technology for homeland defense, military and security applications.
Viisage Technology Inc., Littleton, Mass., has acquired LAU Security Systems, Littleton, Mass. The acquisition includes technology, patents, contract and distribution channels and will expand Viisage's presence in the Federal government and Department of Defense markets.
Micro Key Software Inc., Kissimmee, Fla., has been awarded the 2001 Industry of the Year Award for Osceola County, Fla., by the Economic Development Commission of Mid-Florida.
Optex Inc., Los Angeles, has acquired Security Enclosures Ltd., Surrey, England. SEL is best known for its Redwall range of medium- and long-range PIR detectors.
Pentax Technologies Corp., Broomfield, Colo., has launched a channel partner program for technology resellers in the mobile computing and security/monitoring markets. Pentax has also formed a strategic alliance with PSA Security Network, Denver, to provide smaller businesses better access to internet-based security.
