Oscar travels in style - in a Pinkerton security van accompanied by escort vehicles along a 2,750-mile route.

Pinkerton was charged with safely transporting 50 Oscar statuettes for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in a six-city promotional tour from Chicago to Los Angeles. The awards were carried from R.S. Owens and Co., the Chicago-based manufacturer of the statuettes, to the Academy's offices in Beverly Hills, where they arrived days before the March 21 ceremony.

"We are honored to have been entrusted with the care of these prized statuettes," says Pinkerton senior vice president Ken Moody.

Along the way, the "Oscar on Tour" entourage stopped in St. Louis, Kansas City, Dallas, San Antonio, Tucson and Phoenix. Pinkerton officers guarded individual statuettes when they were off-loaded for public viewing in each city. As a long-standing security partner to the academy, Pinkerton also provided security on Oscar night.

Pinkerton's Special Events Security Group provides services for high-profile events including Formula-One Grand Prix racing, PGA golf and World Cup soccer. The company has provided contract security services to the Academy Awards telecast for 11 consecutive years.
