Shooting victims sue security company

The families of three victims slain in a shooting at ConAgra Foods Inc. in Kansas City, Kan., have sued the company responsible for security at the processing plant, the Kansas City Star reports.
In three separate wrongful-death lawsuits, the families of Are Dell Edwards, Travis Nelson and Lonnie E. Ellingburg have claimed, among other things, that the local security company, First Response, failed to provide adequate security that would have prevented their deaths in July 2004.
The three lawsuits each seek an unspecified amount in damages in excess of $75,000.
John M. Waldeck, an attorney for First Response, said he could not comment on the lawsuits because he had just received copies.
He said that although Edwards' lawsuit had been served on First Response, the other two had not been served yet.
A plant employee, Elijah Brown, 21, of Kansas City, Kan., killed five co-workers and wounded two others before killing himself in the incident.
Edwards, Nelson and Ellingburg were related.
