Apple’s Impact On Video Surveillance, And Emerging Video Components

IPVideoMarket.info, a Web site that monitors in-depth coverage of video surveillance, has recently released two reports regarding video surveillance and CCTV in today’s security industry. The first reports on the key impacts that Apple products, including the iPhone, will deliver to CCTV and video surveillance.
With increasing interest in Apple’s video surveillance role, the company is co-hosting a panel titled "The Future of Video Surveillance" on Sept. 16, 2008 at the ASIS security management seminar.
The special report examines Apple's products and what benefits they can offer video surveillance solutions. The report determines that mobile video surveillance is the area where Apple will create the most significant impact. While mobile video surveillance is highly valuable to security, traditional PDAs and phones had limited success. According to the report, the iPhone (and the iPod touch) have the ability to create a breakthrough to finally deliver quality mobile video surveillance.
"Seemingly everyone wants to know how Apple will impact video surveillance," says John Honovich, founder of IPVideoMarket.info and a panelist on "The Future of Video Surveillance" event. "This report should help the community better understand the key areas where Apple will have the biggest impact. Apple is poised to significantly improve video surveillance. Smart professionals should carefully understand and adjust their actions to maximize this emerging trend."
In another report, IP Video Market Info has announced its selections for the top three emerging technologies in video surveillance for 2008. The winning technologies, poised to significantly improve video surveillance are:
• 360 degree panoramic cameras: They reduce camera count and/or improve coverage by essentially looking in all directions. Grandeye and Immervision were selected as market leaders.
• Storage clusters: They can significantly reduce costs, increase flexibility and support megapixel video by eliminating traditional CCTV / video on-board storage. Pivot3 and Intransa were selected as market leaders.
• Managed Video as a Service (MVasS): It can significantly reduce management and deployment costs of DVRs/NVRs. Envysion was selected as the market leader.
The technologies were selected for their ability to enhance video surveillance/CCTV designs, to reduce costs and enable better, more scalable video surveillance. These technologies are expected to demonstrate significant market uptake in the next 12 to 24 months. Security managers and integrators are advised to carefully evaluate them in their new CCTV / IP video projects.
"Emerging technologies offer great benefits for security managers and the CCTV/video surveillance industry," Honovich says. "Understanding which will have the most impact and are ready for wide deployment is critical in selecting technologies that truly work. We hope these selections help security managers make better decisions and guide them in their evaluations at ASIS 2008."
