American Bus Association president and CEO Peter J. Pantuso has called for Congress to pass motorcoach security legislation introduced last year that will assist the intercity bus industry with security funding. The request followed an attack of a bus driver that resulted in fatalities in California last week.

"Congress has provided 2-5 dollars for security per passenger for airlines and Amtrak and just 2 cents for security per passenger on a motorcoach," Pantuso said. Pantuso added that the airlines have received nearly $4 billion in Federal assistance for security and Amtrak has received $55 million this year, but in the same period, the motorcoach industry has received $15 million.

The American Bus Association is the trade organization with about 900 motorcoach owner and tour company members in the U.S. and Canada.
