The Senate last week approved legislation to increase screening measures and security for the 22 percent of air cargo shipped aboard passenger aircraft.
"It was pointless to require passengers to wait in long security lines if we then allow packages to travel on the very same flight with no inspections whatsoever," said Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-Texas), who co-sponsored the bill.
The measure still must be approved by the U.S. House.
