Dulles International Airport in Washington and Southwest Florida International Airport in Fort Myers, Fla., are the first of 20 facilities to be named in a new test to evaluate emerging security technology.
The Airport Access Control Program will test new screening methods such as iris, face, voice, fingerprint or hand scanning, as well as security door detection systems, advanced video processing and digital CCTV monitoring. New methods verifying access to sensitive areas, such as air cargo facilities and runways; and vehicular screening systems will also be tested.
Seventy-five of the nation's 429 commercial airports applied to be part of the program overseen by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).
