Airport security chiefs removed from duty

Two Transportation Security Administration-appointed airport security chiefs have been removed from duty since Jan. 1, both being placed on administrative leave, pending the TSA's "determination of their status in the coming weeks."
James B. Golden Jr. has been accused of improper hiring practices and allowing lapses in security at Philadelphia International Airport during his 17-month tenure. Golden, who says he expects to be "fully exonerated and returned to full-active duty," according to The Philadelphia Inquirer, allegedly hired and promoted his son-in-law and a former exotic dancer to supervise screeners.
Charles Brady was placed on leave from Washington Dulles International Airport after he was arrested at 1 a.m. on New Year's Day for drunken driving. It is not known whether Brady was supposed to have been on duty at the time, but the TSA says it notified all airport security directors to expect to be on duty until 2 a.m. conducting emergency drills. The incident occurred just hours after authorities detained a British Airways plane at the airport.
