ASIS International (ASIS) has created the ASIS Commission on Guidelines, with its first mission "to advance the practice of security through the development of risk mitigation guidelines."

The Commission has written a General Security Risk Assessment Guideline, which is available on the ASIS Web site, http://www.asisonline.org.

"ASIS previously had chosen not to promulgate guidelines and standards, but we felt that whatever concerns we'd had in the past paled in comparison to the need for a professional security organization to be at the forefront of this initiative," said Chad Callaghan, co-chairman of the Commission. "America's private sector controls 85 percent of critical infrastructure, and we need to take this initiative."

ASIS also has established a working relationship with the Department of Homeland Security, and was approved by the American National Standards Institute as an accredited standards developer.
