"Security should be funded by the federal goverment," Mullin said, adding that airlines will ask Congress to abolish the passenger fee.
Chairman of the House Aviation Subcommittee, Rep. John Mica, R-Fla., said he has no sympathy for the airlines, and will try to make sure the airlines will collect the fee. "We have multibillion-dollar costs of aviation security that should be borne by the passenger who uses air service and not by the general public or the U.S. Treasury," Mica said.
It will be the third time since the Sept. 11 attacks that airlines have asked for government help.
