In the wake of a school shooting tragedy in Germany in which an expelled student gunned down 16 teachers and students, The Justice Policy Institute has released a report detailing how schools in the U.S. are combating violence.
The data shows that in 2000, school-associated violent deaths declined by 72 percent since 1992, from 55 to 16. It also reports that youth homicide arrests have dropped to their lowest levels since 1966.
"Americans need to know that our schools are among the safest places for our kids to be," says Vincent Schiraldi, Justice Policy Institute president.
