The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) sponsored sessions for small and disadvantaged businesses interested in procurement opportunities related to the department's initiative to improve security at airports around the country last week in Miami.

"Small and disadvantaged businesses often do not have established relationships with prime contractors' decision makers, so these one-on-one sessions are a means to 'level the playing field.' They give small firms an opportunity to market their capabilities," U.S. Transportation Deputy Secretary Michael P. Jackson said.

The Miami forum was the fourth of six. Additional forums will take place in Memphis on Sept. 24 and Phoenix on Sept. 26. The locations represent sites where the TSA plans to begin construction soon for installing new security systems.
