Industry and government leaders discussed how to tackle current and emerging challenges by improving private sector and law enforcement cooperation on incident reporting and response, law enforcement investigations, government-industry information sharing, and other critical areas at a government-industry forum on cyber-crime and cyber-terrorism issues last week.

The Information Technology Association of America (ITAA) and the Office of U.S. Attorney Paul McNulty co-hosted the event, held at Computer Sciences Corp., Falls Church, Va.

Robert S. Mueller, Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) delivered the opening keynote address and warned that not reporting cyber-crime can have far-reaching implications. He said it makes it difficult for the FBI to do its job when reports about criminals who successfully penetrate companies' data networks or attack their systems are withheld.

Mueller added that the FBI receives just one-third of the reports about such activities as he would like to see.
