The United States has begun staging mock terrorist attacks in Seattle and Chicago to evaluate preparedness for the real thing.

According to the script, terrorists set off a radioactive device Monday in Seattle, spreading low-level radioactive particles and claiming 100 lives. At the same time, terrorists set off a biological weapon somewhere in Chicago.

Doctors will begin diagnosing "pneumonic plague" in patients pouring into hospitals today, and they will then work to contain the "epidemic" and trace its sources.

Simultaneously, intelligence agencies will begin cross-checking available data to determine whether the "perpetrators" are linked to any known terrorist groups.

Thursday is scheduled to be the busiest day of the drill, as Homeland security officials will distribute medicine and the FBI will conduct "raids" in Chicago, nabbing a handful of "culprits."
