Houston audit reveals problems with City Hall guards
Aug 12, 2003 12:00 PM
Just 12 of the 59 guards assigned to handle security at Houston's City Hall and Public Works building met the city's background check requirements.
Most of the guards had missing information in their employee files, including whether the person is indeed 21 years or older, has a high school diploma or GED, has passed a background check, and has some training and experience.
The report, publicized by Houston's controller's office, come less than a week after the city installed baggage screening units and metal detectors outside city hall, in response to the recent shootings at New York City Hall.
