The International Association of Professional Security Consultants has issued several security precautions for high-rise buildings that could minimize the risk of a terrorist or other attack.

For on-site security, IAPSC recommends reducing vehicular approach speed by adding bumps and curves in the road and controlling vehicular access with barricades. Searches should be conducted for vehicles permitted to use underground parking. Also, site surveillance and monitoring should be increased.

For perimeter security, the group recommends adding blast film to windows, adding security for rooftop entrances, windows, loading docks and air intake grilles. All garbage compactors should be moved away from exterior walls.

Inside the building, employees should be kept separate from visitors, contractors and delivery people. All visitors should be identified before access is granted, and there should be airport-type screening measures (X-ray machines, etc.) in place.
