An American-led consortium headed by Siemens, General Dynamics and Honeywell has finalized an agreement with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to provide security for the 2004 Summer Games in Athens, Greece.
The contract calls for the construction and operation of a central security command and communications system for the 2004 Games. Under the deal, Greek industries will produce $110 million worth of equipment.
"Our experts are confident and happy with the progress made," Olympic Games executive director Gilbert Felli told Reuters. Felli added that a team of Olympic security experts working with the Greek government had reviewed arrangements in Athens and delivered a positive report.
