Nearly 90 mayors, police and fire chiefs have urged the Bush Administration and congress to allot funding for Homeland Security in U.S. Cities.

The group met with Homeland Security director Tom Ridge, Attorney General John Ashcroft and Congressional leaders Tom Daschle and Trent Lott.

"We cannot continue to shoulder these costs alone," said Boston Mayor Thomas Menino, president of the U.S. Conference of Mayors. "We need an effective partnership with Washington that includes direct Homeland Security funding for our cities."
