To this end, the DHS has highlighted the National Emergency Training Center (NETC) in Emmitsburg, Md., where classes are conducted nearly year-round.
The NETC includes the National Fire Academy (NFS) and the Emergency Management Institute (EMI). The student body includes representatives of federal, state, and local government, volunteer organizations, private industry and educational institutions. Course topics range from hazards planning for schools to the Integrated Emergency Management Course, which uses realistic exercises to practice emergency response activities for a community. The classes last from two days to two weeks.
