The Boulder City, Nev., police department has turned to CCTV to aid in city park and intersection security.

SmartConnect, Las Vegas, has been awarded a contract from the City Council of Boulder City for the development of a streaming video surveillance system for the Boulder City Police Department.

The police department plans to use the six-camera SmartConnect system to patrol city parks and high-traffic intersections from a remote location. They will also broadcast several cameras live over the Boulder City Web site, in order to directly enlist public assistance in reducing the amount of vandalism occurring in the community's parks.

``It is our hope we will see a decrease in vandalism at the city parks,'' Boulder City Police Chief William Turk says.

``The SmartConnect Digital Surveillance Center will be connected to high-powered cameras. Those cameras will be connected to the Internet, and directly to the Boulder City Police Department, via an advanced wireless transmission system," says SmartConnect president Henry Valentino III.

The system should be installed and operational by the end of the month.
