National League of Cities president and Minnetonka, Minn. mayor Karen Anderson was sworn in last week as a member of a new Homeland Security committee appointed by Homeland Security Director Tom Ridge.

The committee's newly named members also include Orlando mayor Glenda Hood; Washington mayor Anthony Williams; governor Michael Leavitt of Utah; Oklahoma State Senator James Dunlap; Judge Robert Eckels of Harris County, Texas; Donna Finn, Township Trustee in Jefferson Township, Ohio; Don Knabe of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors; and Alabama Attorney General Bill Pryor.

The committee was created by an executive order earlier this year to provide the President's Homeland Security Advisory Council with advice from local and state government about strengthening security.
