A mass-mailing Internet worm discovered Friday is circulating worldwide. According to anti-virus provider Central Command, Worm/MiMail.A attempts to use a security hole in Microsoft Internet Explorer to create an executable virus able to run on the local computer.

Computers and users in the U.S. are being the hardest hit thus far, with 61 percent of the confirmed infection reports originating in the U.S., Central Command reports. "Creative social engineering is fueling the fire," Steven Sundermeier, the company's vice president of products and services, said.

The e-mail worm arrives with a ".zip" file attachment, "message.zip."
