New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg has met with President Bush and Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge to acquire more of the $900 million in funding the state needs to pay for Homeland security measures.

The extra police costs in the city alone run up to $1 million a day in the city, which recently launched a $5-million-a-week counterterrorism effort coupled with the beginning of the war in Iraq.

The proposal seeks $189 million in funding to buy additional equipment and nearly $225 million to upgrade the city's communications and information technology.
