Members of the National League of Cities' (NLC) Transportation Infrastructure and Services Steering Committee and municipal officials from across the nation reviewed it policy positions on transportation security issues and discussed the future of the nation's inter-city passenger rail system in Florida last week.

"We have new issues surrounding transportation security," said Mayor Conrad Bowers of Bridgeton, Mo., chair of the committee.

Mayor John DeStefano of New Haven, Conn., joined other state and local officials in a meeting with Transportation Secretary Norman Y. Mineta to highlight the need for increased funding for highways and transit in the next surface transportation law.
