The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has issued orders to upgrade security measures already in place at the nation's nuclear power plants.

"Some of the requirements formalize a series of security measures the NRC licensees had taken in response to...the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks," the commission said.

The commission provided few details, but in general, the facilities will increase patrols and security posts, install additional physical barriers, conduct vehicle checks at greater stand-off distances, and implement more restrictive access control for personnel.
