The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has successfully implemented a secure authorization and management system for the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens.

The Accreditation (ACR) system from New-York-based Schlumberger Ltd.'s IT division will control access to venues and provide participants' data to other applications within the IOC's Games Management System (GMS).

The ACR manages registration processes to ensure that only eligible participants can attend and participate in the Games. At the same time, the system indicates the areas that each individual participant is authorized to access. The system also provides participants' data to help with coordination of transportation, medical encounters, VIP protocol management, arrivals and departures, accommodations, and staff/volunteer management.

The accreditation process includes security checks by law enforcement agencies, as well as immigration checks for non-Greek citizens.
