Security the top determining factor in future Olympic bids

Security should be the top priority for the nine cities bidding to host the 2012 Olympics, Inernational Olympic Committee president Jacques Rogge said last week.
Nearly 100 delegates from the applicant cities -- New York; London; Paris; Moscow; Madrid, Spain; Istanbul, Turkey; Leipzig, Germany; Havana, Cuba, and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil -- are attending a four-day seminar to learn more about the bidding process and security requirements.
"We have to ensure that there are no security breaches, and that is why I put security at the top of the list of priorities," Rogge said. The IOC executive board will meet in May to determine which to accept as official "candidate cities." The host city will be chosen in July 2005.
