The Travel Industry of America has begun "an aggressive lobbying and communications campaign" to stall a number of new airport security rules concerning foreign visitors. The group cites an adverse impact on international travel as the reason for the campaign.

The rules include a requirement for new machine-readable passports for all countries not requiring a visa for U.S. travel, extensive individual interviews for each visa applicant before departing for the U.S. and a new tracking program for all international travelers.

The American flying public, however, is growing accustomed to the bevy of security enhancements instituted by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).

According to a University of Nebraska survey of 775 Midwest Airlines passengers, nearly 85 percent were satisfied or very satisfied with their airport experiences. More than 75 percent of those surveyed agreed that increased security measures made their flights safer, and 75 percent also said they were likely or very likely to fly again during the next six months.
