Two U.S. international airports have selected facial recognition systems by Visionics Corp., Minnetonka, Minn., for installation this month.

The FaceIt ARGUS systems are expected to be installed by December. One of the two airports is classified as "Category X," meaning it is one of America's largest airports. For security reasons, both of the airports will remain unnamed until installation is completed.

The system at the Category X airport will begin as a pilot, encompassing multiple security checkpoints at the concourse level. The system will automatically scan faces passing through the checkpoints and compare them against a designated watch list maintained by authorities. When a match is found, an alarm will alert security personnel.
