Canadian Deputy Prime Minister John Manley says that Canada and the U.S. have reached a major breakthrough by agreeing to a joint border security project called "Free and Secure Trade."
The program, which was jointly announced by Manley and U.S. Homeland Security Adviser Tom Ridge, allows commercial vehicles a quicker border crossing, provided parent companies increase supply-chain security.
Pre-approved drivers and low-risk shipments will have their own line at border crossings.
"We've reached our first critical milestone," Manley told The Associated Press.
