New reports released by the Smart Card Alliance's Digital Security Initiative indicate that smart card technology is becoming integrated into leading enterprise and government IT networks around the world. The white papers and case studies provide IT managers with information that they need to implement smart card solutions that create more secure networks and deliver significant returns on investment.

Reports available at http://www.smartcardalliance.org include real-world case studies that illustrate current smart card initiatives in the public and private sectors. In addition to case studies, the Digital Security Initiative is also introducing two new white papers outlining some of the major issues in the smart card industry.

The first white paper traces the integration of the smart card reader into the personal computer architecture. The second white paper highlights one of the most crucial issues for acceptance of smart card technology by the IT community. The paper hails the release of the Government Smart Card Interoperability Specification as "the first comprehensive effort to address the interoperability requirements for the enterprise market."

"These case studies and white papers provide a business perspective for any IT executive re-evaluating the security of their digital networks," says Charles Cagliostro, chairman of the Smart Card Alliance Digital Security Initiative. "Smart card systems are no longer just for the ultra high security enterprise; the work of many industry participants now allows Fortune 1000 organizations to incorporate this technology as they enhance their security architecture."
