Motorola will introduce a trial wideband data system for use in Pinellas County, Fla., called the Greenhouse Project.

The technology enables live wide-area wireless mobile video, voice and Intranet/Internet data transmission for police, fire, emergency medical service and other public safety applications.

It will enable users to utilize simultaneous live wireless mobile video. This would give a police officer the opportunity to have live video conferencing between dispatchers and mobile units.

Some of the applications of the technology that attracted the Pinellas Police Department included:

-- The ability to distribute pictures of missing children and criminal suspects to all equipped vehicles in the field;

-- The ability to distribute videos of robberies and other crimes as soon as possible;

-- The ability to give fire departments access to building plans and hydrants;

-- The ability to transmit fingerprint scans to equipped vehicles;

-- The ability to transmit live video feeds for high-speed chases and pursuits.

"Greenhouse technology also allows public safety users to increase their time in the field by allowing those participants to perform most desk functions outside the station," said Pam Montanari, radio systems manager of Pinellas County.
