Vicon Industries Inc., a designer and producer of video surveillance systems, will provide camera domes and pan-and-tilt drives as part of an integrated video surveillance system to be installed at Beijing National Stadium, a venue of the 2008 Olympic Games.

The opening and closing ceremonies of the 2008 Summer Olympics, as well as some athletic events, will be held at the newly constructed stadium. When completed in March 2008, it will have a seating capacity of 91,000.

Vicon China, headquartered in Hong Kong with offices throughout China, is providing local support for the project.

As athletes and spectators converge upon Beijing this summer, Olympic officials are under great pressure to provide an environment in which all feel safe. As such, high-tech video surveillance will play a crucial role.

Vicon Surveyor VFT day/night PTZ domes with 23x optical zoom will be a key component of the system currently being installed. The SurveyorVFT domes were chosen because of their record for performance and reliability and will be installed around the exterior of the stadium in locations where quality could absolutely not be compromised.

In addition, Vicon pan-and-tilt drives will be used around the exterior and throughout the interior of the stadium to provide operational stability for a variety of other manufacturers' cameras. The Vicon pan-and-tilts will assure that Olympic security management can easily and reliably control the movement of the cameras, focusing on desired locations of interest or concern.

"It is exhilarating to be part of securing this facility," says J.C. Caine, international sales manager at Vicon. "Olympic officials claim that, when completed, the National Stadium will be the largest enclosed space in the world. I can't think of a more exciting way for Vicon to conclude its 40th year anniversary."
