Texas Hospital Deploys Analytics For Emergency Room

Video analytics ensures round-the-clock operation and security at the emergency room of a Texas hospital. The hospital recently deployed a system from ioimage, Denton, Texas, in conjunction with surveillance cameras to alert nursing staff when patients arrive at the entrance or if someone should slip and fall outside the building. The video analytics system automatically identifies any approaching individual and alerts staff members with a visual and audible alert of the person outside. This enables the medical staff to focus on caring for patients and hospital staff to attend to their daily tasks, while providing secure and safe 24-hour access to the hospital's emergency room.

By implementing ioimage's video analytics, officials at the Texas hospital estimate savings of $240,000 annually on round-the-clock staffing. The system also enables the health care facility to comply with a state law requiring all hospitals to offer an emergency room with all-hours access.

According to the hospital, the ioimage system set itself apart by offering key behavior scenarios in addition to motion alarm capabilities. The system identifies people lying down and can also determine coverage area and eliminate non-critical areas, such as the street next to the hospital.

“This installation verifies ioimage's approach to video analytics, providing solutions to small- to medium-sized installations, such as in the health care market, that benefit from enhanced security and also gain substantial savings,” says Zeev Farkash, vice president of sales and customer services for ioimage.
