In our third-annual contest, 20 finalists were chosen from entries representing new product development in the industry. Here's a look at the top contenders.

Air Visual Inc.

IntelliViewer is a hosted software application that enables visual intelligence available at the command center (i.e., live or archived surveillance camera video, access control and security systems status) to be accessible to security personnel and first responders whether on foot or behind the wheel. Using conventional mobile devices such as tablet and handheld computers, cell phones and PDAs, IntelliViewer helps personnel to be more effective and in control as they protect lives and property.

Bosch

The 8-channel VideoJet 8008 digital encoder, the first multi-channel unit to offer dual streaming, offers DVD quality real-time video with a maximum data rate of 30 images per second at 4 CIF over Gigabit Ethernet; using less than half the network bandwidth and storage space of similar models; different frame rates for optimal storage; and integrated hard disk for simultaneous playback and recording and protection against network failure.

Commend Inc.

ET-901 IP Intercom Station Adapter is designed to allow any Commend intercom station (analog or digital; master station or substation) to immediately become IP ready, with full functionality and Commend's signature superior audio quality. The ET-901 can be powered locally or over the Ethernet (POE). ET-901 also has an auxiliary uplink port, which allows the ET-901 to share the IP address with another IP device (i.e.: IP camera or computer).

DVTel

SceneTracker software, based on cutting edge AVT patented technology, gives you a real-world, real-time perspective of multiple cameras in a single integrated scene. The SceneTracker view is unprecedented in that it combines local cameras, distantly located cameras, and non-overlapped cameras like those located between walls and above ceilings. Within the scene, objects or persons can be tracked across cameras, around bends and out of the building and the tracking area can be zoomed.

EID Passport

RAPIDGate empowers U.S. military and government facilities to tighten security while streamlining access for vendors, contractors, suppliers, and service providers. At no charge to the facility, RAPIDGate gathers ID information for thorough background screening of frequent facility visitors. Qualifying personnel receive state-of-the-art, personalized RFID badges. At access control points, RAPIDGate installs guard stations and handheld systems for authenticating identify using visual and biometric data. This process speeds visitor access and improves facility security and efficiency.

Hectrix Limited

ACTAtek, an access control and time attendance system, that enhances security, accountability and, prevents buddy punching. With its built-in TCP/IP networking and web server support features, ACTAtek can be accessed at anytime from anywhere, independent of geographic location via a standard web browser. It has a number of authentication tokens, from PIN with built-in CMOS camera, to smart card and fingerprint or a combination of the three. With an IP-rated casing, ACTAtek is weather, water and impact resistant.

HID Corp.

VertX CS is an access control solution that operates in a central station environment eliminating the need for a separate, standalone access control system either at a user's site or the central station. It provides all the benefits of a robust access control system, including the ability to run the same management and monitoring reports available with typical central station automation software. And, this is done without disrupting existing infrastructure enabling the alarm dealer to provide access control services where it was previously either too expensive, too complex or too labor intensive.

Honeywell Access Systems

The Digital Video Manager addresses the challenges of today's video surveillance and security operations. DVM is a network video recording solution using off-the-shelf hardware and IP-based cameras on existing infrastructure. DVM protects existing investments, allowing the re-use of analog switchers, multiplexers and coaxial cabling. Integration with Pro-Watch Security Management Software provides alarm and motion activated recording - only critical video is stored. Isonas Security Systems

The Wireless IP Reader-Controller communicates door access information with a wireless router or network access point located up to 1,000 feet away. The panel-free system conforms to the 802.11b standard and can use WEP or WPA encryption, including PSK and TKIP options. This innovation offers state of the art access control for difficult security environments where wires are impractical or impossible, while also providing traditional settings with significant cost-savings via easy, wire-free installation.

Johnson Controls

The Digital Vision Network (DVN) combines the benefits of digital video recording with software that improves image monitoring, analysis and archiving. DVN can recognize and record specific events or anomalies, detect motions and behaviors, and respond by alerting officials. Its software can also search recorded video footage for user-defined objects. DVN delivers high video and voice quality over low bandwidth for minimal demands on the network, and allows remote management of complex digital video architectures.

Middle Atlantic Products

Fully welded Quiet-Cool and Convective Series monitoring consoles have been designed to solve the problems faced by installers every day and are available with slide out and rotating equipment bays that provide easy access to rear equipment connections. The rack frame removes for in-shop integration and on-site installation, saving considerable time while consoles can now be placed against the wall, saving up to 6 sq. feet of space per bay.

Northrop Grumman

IAAS integrates physical and cyber security information from multiple, standalone systems and provides a single portal for accessing and analyzing security events. IAAS constantly monitors for threats and automatically alerts personnel to investigate specific incidents. Event information is instantaneously logged and broadcast to remote clients via secure Web or wireless device. IAAS provides organizations with comprehensive view of their security environment and offers improved incident assessment capabilities with enhanced command, control and communication functionality.

Optelecom Inc.

The CS-20 combines a drop and insert capable, temperature-hardened 6-port Fast Ethernet switch (4x100 Base-TX, 2x100 Base-FX) with a high quality MPEG2 video encoder that also supports audio, serial data, and contact closures. Combining this functionality into a single cost-effective, space-saving device provides a simple solution for difficult Ethernet security applications with a single device from one manufacturer.

Panasonic

The WJ-ND300 Network Disk Recorder is designed specifically for IP-based systems operating on a LAN/WAN. The unit offers scalable operation with numerous system features and expansion capabilities plus the ability to record cameras from a variety of manufacturers. The WJ-ND300's performance features include: auto IP detection and set-up; high performance transmission; a refresh rate of 960ips @32 cameras (MPEG4); multi-format recording (JPEG/MJPEG/MPEG4); data stream control between live and recorded images; up to four optional internal hard drives with the addition of an optional external RAID 5 and/or expansion modules capable of housing up to 28 hard drives; extensive management control capabilities; and dispersed configuration when used with Panasonic's Management Software.

Software House

The Multi-Technology readers allow companies to gradually transition from a proximity system to a more advanced smart card system. At a price equivalent to a standard proximity reader, the Multi-Technology reader simultaneously reads most proximity and smart card formats including HID125 KHz, Casi Prox-Lite, HID iCLASS, MiFare, DESFire and others. These innovative readers are ISO 15693 and 14443A/B compliant.

TOA Electronics Inc.

The N-8000 Series IP Network Intercom offers flexible communications for up to 1280 stations on corporate local and wide area data networks. The new system occupies minimal network bandwidth and can be controlled and monitored through a standard web browser. Features include time-based call forwarding, 160 paging zones and scan monitoring. An innovative ambient noise sensing function allows hands-free duplex communication between stations. Products include the compact N-8000EX Exchange plus a variety of desktop, industrial and door station options. More N-8000 products are planned for later in 2005.

Ultra Electronics

With its patented HoloKote ID card watermark, the Magicard Rio 2 printer sets the new benchmark for ID card security. It costs nothing to print the HoloKote watermark and it is printed on standard plastic cards. With the Rio 2, a custom HoloKote pattern can be specified, ensuring not only the highest card security, but enabling the customer to print their own logo on the card.

Verichip Corp.

The RFID micro transponder is implanted just under the skin, via a quick, painless outpatient procedure (much like getting a shot). Each VeriChip contains a unique verification number that is read by briefly passing a proprietary scanner over the VeriChip. This number can then be used to retrieve the individual's data via secure, password protected web access.

Videx

CyberAudit-Web, a browser-based software program offers cellular communication to remotely program user keys, anywhere and anytime. Access authorization can be sent to keys via a cellular phone, providing on-demand access and eliminating unauthorized entry and security risks from lost keys. CyberAudit-Web is used in conjunction with CyberLock electronic keys and lock cylinders. CyberLock cylinders retrofit mechanical door hardware, and do not require batteries or wiring.
