Enhancing remote monitoring

Intelligence & Security Services Inc. (ISS) has expanded remote monitoring to the realm of "proactive monitoring," according to Larry Richards, vice president of the division of Dalton, Ga.-based Whittemore Associates Inc.In addition to providing standard alarm monitoring services, ISS conducts random unannounced security inspections of client sites via CCTV - taking steps to prevent an alarm activation instead of waiting for an activation before viewing the site. "If you're monitoring a door and it opens, you react to that, but if you go and open the door and peek outside on a regular basis, you're more likely to be ready for something before it happens," he says. The random tours replace or enhance the role of security guards and reduce false alarms and unnecessary response fees, Richards says.

"We're a virtual security officer," he says. "We build our service applications like physical security companies and apply them from a remote standpoint. The only thing security officers can do that we can't is distinguish odors."ISS also provides custom-designed system integration and service packages for motels, gated communities, and commercial and industrial facilities. When clients contact ISS, installers, dealers or company representatives visit their sites for tours and consultations. ISS supplies services to each company depending on its specific needs. For instance, one company may request 24-hour alarm monitoring and then turn over access control to ISS during after-hours, while another facility such as a car dealership may require ISS to interact with customers during off hours as a deterrent to theft.

The company installs systems for local-area clients and works through dealers and installers to improve integrated system applications, remote systems and site management services for companies out of Georgia.Clients may subscribe to services on a long-term agreement basis and add other services in base monitoring service agreements for shorter periods.Other services include: - active "live" response to alarms,- one- or two-way voice,- remote control door access,- remote equipment activation,- subscriber personal viewing of facility,- basic video enhancement,- portable panic response devices,- remote control of gates, and- remote pan/tilt/zoom camera control. For information call ISS at 706-259-9942.
