Onlooker, a video-delay line that provides conventional analog VCRs with pre-alarm recording capabilities, is new fromPrimary Image, Orlando, Fla. Input video captured by a CCTV camera is digitized and compressed before being stored in Onlooker's memory. The video output is delayed for a number of seconds, during which time security personnel can assess a scene and make the decision to start recording. If the decision to record is made, the video output is sent to the analog recorder for later use.
Two new digital quad plus audio processors, the VMS500mkII and the VMS600mkII, have been introduced by Superscope Technologies, Aurora, Ill. The processors can function as stand-alone quads, sequential switchers or remote video processors using the RS-232 interface. Both feature four microphone inputs, four audio outputs and an audio-follow-video feature that allows the operator to simultaneously switch audio sources and video sources via the front panel, remote control or programmable sequence.
A 34x, 1/3-inch-format zoom lens with 5.5-187mm focal length is new from Chugai Boyeki, Commack, N.Y. Model number T34Z5518AMS, the CS-mount, compact lens is capable of long-distance surveillance and wide-angle coverage. Coreless motors used for zoom and focus make it durable, says Chugai Boyeki. Available in two versions - with autoiris or autoiris with presets - the lens also features a f1.8 maximum iris aperture for excellent low-light performance, according to the company.
The Digimax 30 digital camera features a digital still mode suited to indoor and outdoor use and a digital video mode that permits indoor video conferencing, according to manufacturer Samsung Opto-Electronics America, Secaucus, N.J. The camera uses Intel's 971 PC camera kit technology and complies with the Portable PC Camera '98 Design Guideline, says the company. As a PC peripheral, the camera relies on the power of the PC to enhance, store and share images. The camera incorporates Universal Serial Bus technology for downloading of images to a PC and uses removable compact flash cards, which are similar to 35mm film in that they hold negatives, which are sent to the PC for processing. Other features include three types of resolution, a 64mb miniature flash memory card, auto-white balance and a built-in flash.
The SuperDome/Coaxlynx is an easy-to-install operating system for small CCTV installations, says manufacturer Videolarm, Decatur, Ga. The SuperDome is available in outdoor, indoor recessed or indoor pendant models. All models come with an integral 125-degree-per-second, variable-speed pan/tilt. The integral pan/tilt can be ordered with 12- or 24-degree-per-second fixed panning speeds. The SuperDome connects to the Coaxlynx controller, a device with up-the-coax, integrated, automatic sequential switching. Expansion boards are field-upgradable and allow up to 16 camera inputs. Three auxiliary buttons allow activation of alarms, closing of doors or operation of auxiliary devices. Random pan and auto-pan are other features.
