  • Scientists are using surveillance tape from atop a Pasco, Wash., casino to study what was believed to be a meteor shower that lit up the western sky on June 3.

  • A San Francisco area transit authority has selected mobile digital video recorders from March Networks, Ottawa, as part of an on-board video and audio surveillance system. Diversified Security Solutions is providing the rest of the system.

  • KinderCam, an Atlanta-based Internet monitoring service, installs cameras in daycare and childcare centers and classrooms, enabling parents who have signed up for the service to see their children throughout the day.

  • A brazen armed robbery of more than 30 shotguns, assault weapons and expensive jewelry from a Denver pawn shop was caught on video tape. The Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms is using the tape to track the six robbers.

  • Booth Western Art Museum, an 80,000-square-foot facility in Cartersville, Ga., features valuable exhibits including presidential letters and Civil War memorabilia. The museum has implemented video surveillance equipment from GE Security to protect those exhibits, along with a theater facility.

  • Surveillance cameras at a Tacoma, Wash., convenience store captured the murder of a 37-year-old man by two teens.

  • The North County (Calif.) Transit District (NCTD) relies on MobileView, a mobile video surveillance system from GE Interlogix, to provide visual evidence against liability issues of vandalism and accidents on its fleet of buses.

  • Canton (Miss.) High School is meeting safety, education and training standards of the No Child Left Behind Act with the help of a networked video system from Axis Communications, Chelmsford, Mass. Not only do the cameras provide security, they also enable students to attend recorded classroom sessions.

  • The Sacred Heart Church in Bradenton, Fla., has installed a video surveillance system in response to three vandalism incidents in four months, leading to more than $4,000 in damage. The system will include four cameras.

  • Veterans Memorial Park in Connecticut has mounted two CCTV cameras on a nearby building to catch vandals. Most patrons said that being under surveillance wouldn't spoil a walk in the park.

  • The Professional Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio, has welcomed more than 7 million visitors since it opened in 1963. The facility has integrated high-resolution surveillance cameras and digital video recorders from Diebold Inc., and its partners, GE Security and CBC America, to help secure the valuable memorabilia.

  • Police in Prince George's County, Md., are investigating the surveillance tape from a 7-Eleven store that captured images of a teen being chased into a street before being knocked down and killed by passing cars.
