DAY/NIGHT CAMERAS AT NY HOUSING AUTHORITY

The New York City Housing Authority has awarded a contract to equip 66 of its buildings in the New York Metropolitan area with security system equipment, including day/night cameras from Sanyo Security Products, Chatsworth, Calif., for video surveillance.

“These buildings are in a high-crime area, and the cameras will be working day and night to help keep the residents safe,” says Duane Clutts, Sanyo's Northeastern regional sales manager.

The Sanyo VCC-4594 High Resolution Day/Night Cameras will be installed on the outside of the buildings for perimeter surveillance. The model was selected because it produces high-resolution images under dramatically changing lighting conditions. The camera has more than 520 lines resolution and automatically switches to black-and-white mode as light decreases.

Elcor International Inc., New York, won the contract to supply the security system equipment following a more than six-month evaluation process. The announcement of the Contract Award was made at one of the buildings involved in the project. Councilman Eric Gioia was on hand as well as Chuck Geschwind, president of Elcor, and Fred Phillips, president of BKA Reps.

The New York City Housing Authority, created in 1934, is the largest public housing authority in North America. Its Conventional Public Housing Program has 181,581 apartments in 345 developments throughout New York City.

That represents a total of 2,694 residential buildings.
