ioimage Intelligent Video System Boosts Security at Israeli University

The Technion Israel Institute of Technology, the oldest university in Israel, has deployed Israel-based ioimage's Intelligent Video monitor surveillance throughout the 1,325,000-square-meter campus, which includes approximately 85 buildings. The solution allows for remote detection and analysis of security situations, an important feature during a katusha rocket attack on the city of Haifa in 2006.

“When the terrorists launched attacks that hit our campus, we had already evacuated everyone safely. We didn't need to place anyone in jeopardy where we could not guarantee scene safety,” says Amos Kessler, Technion's commanding security officer. “We had the tactical advantage of observing and being informed of everything while bunkered safely in the remote security control center.”

Technion had also experienced a number of thefts prior to the installation of the ioimage system. “The system has been a real crime deterrent. We had several instances of computer theft, and our investigations led us to determine that the thieves often carried computers over the security fence to waiting parked vehicles,” Kessler says. “After installation, we saw a sharp decline in the number of thefts on campus.”

Extreme Delivers Night Vision For Oregon and Washington Hospitals

Major Oregon and Washington hospitals have selected the EX36N camera from Extreme CCTV, Burnaby, British Columbia, for applications in their behavioral health units, sleep research labs and ER holding rooms. The camera delivers active infrared night vision, which is invisible to the human eye, so that patients sleeping in complete darkness can be observed on camera as if it were daylight. The projects were completed by Selectron, an Oregon-based firm company specializing in consultation, design, installation and long term service of Integrated Security Management Systems.

Alabama Port Authority Installs Video Analytics-Based Intrusion Detection System

The Alabama State Port Authority selected Adesta LLC, Omaha, Neb., to design, build and install a video analytics-based intrusion detection system for the port's McDuffie Coal Terminal, one of the largest coal terminals in the country. The system, which was slated for completion in December 2006, protects against intrusion or invasion and restricts personnel to designated areas. Security measures include video analytics for intrusion detection and monitoring vessel traffic and a wireless communications link to the port police building, allowing police officers to remotely monitor the facility and recognize threats from a central location.

According to Adesta, the features promote overall security and ensure continued safe and efficient port operations. It also includes servers to backup security information. “This addition completes our planned electronic surveillance package,” says Hal Hudgins, Alabama State Port Authority vice president of planning and security.

South Carolina Port Implements Cargo Security, Tracking Information Network

The South Carolina State Ports Authority (SCSPA) has partnered with Savi Networks, Mountain View, Calif., to extend the SaviTrak information service to three container terminals at the Port of Charleston to enhance the security and efficiency of in-transit cargo shipments.

The installation of SaviTrak's standards-based Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) infrastructure at the fourth busiest container port on the East and Gulf coasts will automate visibility of RFID-sealed containers and their contents, providing the port and its customers with real-time location and status information, automated alerts and analytics. SaviTrak will link South Carolina's Wando Welch, North Charleston and Columbus Street terminals, which account for 2 million container shipments a year, with a global network of trade lanes at partner terminals in Asia, North and South America and Europe.
