Catching Criminals In The Act

SPOTLIGHT: 3VR Searchable Surveillance System with CrimeDex

3VR Security Inc. has introduced a searchable surveillance system that speeds up the process of criminal identification and helps stop a crime as it is occurring. The new searchable surveillance system integrates the CrimeDex Suspect Database to help bank, retail and law enforcement personnel identify criminals, expedite investigations and share critical information to stop fraud. The CrimeDex network includes thousands of criminal profiles and uses the system's existing facial recognition analytics to alert businesses when a suspect enters a facility. CrimeDex was developed by Amcrin Corp., which was recently acquired by 3VR, and is currently used by 295 banks and credit unions, 172 law enforcement agencies, 24 federal agencies, five retailers and seven private investigation organizations.

According to 3VR officials, conventional surveillance systems only capture crimes on video with no means to stop fraudsters from striking again. 3VR's surveillance system employs a combination of shared video, search and face recognition to automatically detect and disrupt fraud offenders. The CrimeDex database adds to the company's internal watchlists to create a shared industry database of known criminal suspects. The system's search and biometric technologies enable customers to query a suspect instantly against historical archives stored in both the internal and shared watchlists of criminals.

“3VR developed the use of search, face recognition and video surveillance to combat fraud while CrimeDex offers collaborative information sharing that has been the foundation for successfully solving thousands of crimes,” says Steve Russell, 3VR chief executive officer. “Combining the companies will allow commercial organizations and law enforcement to share and access critical information to detect suspects, prevent incidents and connect the dots in criminal investigations.” Searchable Surveillance System With CrimeDex, 3VR Security (3VR.com) Circle No. 7 or visit securitysolutions.com/productinfo.

Biometric Fingerprint Sensors

CAN BE EMBEDDED INTO HARDWARE

The embedded biometric sensors capture the minutiae of a fingerprint for matching. The two sensors include the E3 sensor, which can integrate into any system, and the E1 sensor, which is a lower-cost option for devices already connected to a central processing unit. By embedding the devices into the hardware, the system only allows authorized users to access information on the network. Both devices include radio frequency (RF) sensors, which read below the surface of the finger to capture an image of the fingerprint at the corium level. The RF sensor ensures that the device gets an accurate scan, regardless of skin or weather conditions.
