Eight apartment buildings in Lakewood, N.J., have been linked with a wireless CCTV video surveillance network by North American Video, Brick, N.J. The technology provides the Lakewood Police Department with in-car real-time video feeds to monitor situations at the complex while responding to an emergency.

North American Video installed eight video surveillance systems in each building that include 12 Accurate cameras in vandal-proof housings. “Wireless transmission technology allowed us to create a virtual CCTV system network that ties the eight free-standing buildings into a single system and monitoring station,” says Ron Freschi of North American Video. “By assigning IP addresses to each of the cameras, the Lakewood Police use mobile laptop PCs to dial into any of the camera sites and view real-time images.”

The video from each camera is fed to a wireless transmitter on the roof of each building, where the signals are then sent to a central monitoring station. “The cameras provide a real deterrent while providing police and the complex's security staff with the ability to patrol the whole complex simultaneously.”
