The 3,700-room Circus Circus Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas offers more than 100,000 square feet of gaming activities. To monitor this area, Conrad Steffen, director of surveillance, relies on the latest video camera technology. Last November he upgraded one of the casino video surveillance systems from standard CCTV to new camera technology from IPIX Corp., Reston, Va., that offers a 360-degree field of vision. “We use them in conjunction with other cameras at entrances and exits to track people and things,” he says.

Steffen's choice of video cameras paid off when a counterfeiter was detected attempting to pass bogus $50 bills in the casino. By combining video taken from fixed, narrow-field-of-view cameras with stored video from IPIX's 360-degree full-room coverage, he was able to identify the suspect, track his movements and follow him when he linked up with several associates still on the hotel property. They were all arrested.

Steffen has installed seven IPIX IP cameras throughout the 16,733-square-foot Slots of Fun casino. The cameras include the IPIX Command View Dome and the IPIX Command View Camera, which is flush-mounted to the ceiling. Using the flush mounting kit, only the camera lens — smaller than a sprinkler head — is visible. Available in two-or three-megapixel resolution, the Command View product line captures a 360×180-degree field of view. Compact and ready to use, the Command View easily attaches to standard CCTV mounts and enclosures. All are connected to the Sentry 360 software and DVRs, which combine computer and digital video recorder functionalities. IP capabilities allow the cameras to be brought up remotely on any computer on the property.
